Newly hatched chick with very large stomach

Some how this hatch is going wrong in every way possible. I just had a chick hatch and I noticed it kept turning onto its back so I took it out and noticed something didn’t look right with its stomach. What should I do?

I get these occasionally, they haven't fully absorbed their yolk sac yet and they often have a hard time balancing and thriving. Most you can do is keep her in a warm, quiet, stressful free area and make sure the other chicks don't bother her. Also would be good to flip her back onto her legs as needed, and in a day drip a drop of a high strength poultry vitamin along her bill being careful not to aspirate her.

I forgot to mention since the area is still absorbing yolk, if bacteria got onto her navel area it would make it a prime environment for growth so it may be wise to dab a little bit of a triple antibiotic ointment on it to keep it from getting infected.

Could I use the ointment used on cuts before putting on a band aid?

Thanks, yes she is. I don’t like seeing things wrong with my animals. It hurts me to see them like this.

Oh, I'm right there with you. Kind of the Achilles heel of being an empathic animal lover!! I lost my pullet the other day after a commotion and thought for sure she was taken by an avian predator. I was beside myself. My husband was upset but thought I was looney tunes for how 'overwhelming' my sadness was. He found her in the woods, thank god...but I know how painful it is to imagine your babies suffering.

That happened to one of my hens, I couldn’t find her, but she had run out of the coop and couldn’t find here way back.
