First let me say we are new at this and I didnt want any part of this but here I am.
Yesterday I went out to check on the nesting hens, making sure they had food an water. I noticed a ball of fluff at the end of the coop, away from its moms and It was getting eaten up by the giant mutant flys we have. I picked it up an brought it into the house. When I got in I noticed it has two wounds on either side of its head by the ear holes I think along with an rye that is bulging out. I need help to nurse this little one back to health without having to go to the vet. Thank you. Pictures below

Looks like she will die. It would be nice if she lived. What happened? Did mom maybe toss her out? I think all you can do is put ointment on the wounds. Keep her warm and dribble some water with a tsp on the side of her beak if awake. She will need water.

We just had an incident where my kids 4H turkeys (babies) got out of there brooder and attacked our baby ducks. They pecked them so bad one has a hole through its beak. Do you have vetericyn? it's a wound cleaner that I have found to work pretty good. I would start by cleaning with that, and continue to keep area clean. Also make sure baby is warm under a heat lamp and give some electrolytes. Make sure that the baby stays warm. Good luck and I hope everything turns out ok.

You can get the vetericyn at most pet stores / feed stores and it's not expensive. You can use it on all types of animals, it has become a staple on our family farm.

Thank you for your honesty, I do not believe she will make it but I will put forth effort so if she does pass she knows she was loved. I have been dribbling water out of a syringe for it an it has been drinking little driplets. Someone else here told me to mix a tablespoon of water with a raw egg so she can eat. She is nice an warm and will gladly voice her opinion if shes too warm or cold. I just have to try.

Yes I believe that the mom tossed her. The moms would get all huge if you got near them but when i grabbed this one they didnt care.

I agree try to keep it clean and use some ointment without pain killer. Water is most important and maybe try making the feed into a warm mash. Poor little thing. I hope it all works out. Best of luck to you.

This happened to about 5 of our newly hatched chicks. We think one of our roosters got into the nesting box and tried to "eliminate" any new comers to the flock. My husband had to section off the hen and all of her eggs so that she would be the only one allowed to be around them, and that did the trick. This was her first broody season and now we have 2 very healthy little chicks. We thought we would never have any survive because of the same type thing that happened with yours. I guess that's why people have brood houses. Now we know.

Good luck with future hatchings! :D They are always amazing and a miracle when they grow to be healthy!

Also, we thought momma hen was the one hurting the little ones first, as well, because she seemed so protective/ aggressive when we tried to get to her or the chicks/eggs, but that was just because of all of the stress she was under with us bothering her and also from her trying to ward off all of the other chickens who tried to get into the nesting box to either lay an egg or, like the rooster, hurt the babies. Try separating momma hen and the eggs from the rest of the flock and see if that helps.

We separated the hens from the rest of the flock and they seem to be better. Its really hot out so I am worried about that. The little one is drinking water not food tho. When hubby geta home I will feed it egg yolk with water
