I have a newly laying EE, she waited quite a long time to start laying. Her first egg was a shelled egg (she has plenty of calcium), I think just her body getting use to it. Then the next day her blue egg came out perfect. That was over 12 days ago and she hasn’t laid again. Should I be worried?

She isn’t very vocal, but she is the one hen I have that always does an egg call. I hear it multiple times a week from her, but she hasn’t laid. Just trying to see if anyone else has experience this.

How old is she? If her diet has plenty of calcium, protein etc. then I wouldn’t be too worried. She could be eating her eggs. Is she on layers pellets/mash?

Yes she has free choice to calcium and I have them on a mix of All Flock and Layer pellets. I have them laying on the laying straw pads from Amazon. I have never seen any yolk so I don’t think she would be eating them. How do you determine if they are? Would you see yolk?

There probably would be yolk in the nestboxes, and when ours eat their eggs they often have dried yolk on their beak and face. Sometimes there will be eggshell in the nests.

Haven’t seen that at all yet. Hoping she is just still adjusting. She is the only hen I have than never quite seemed ready to lay or that she would, other than her feat ur es maturing. She isn’t acting down or having issues, so hoping she is ok.

Yeah, she probably is just adjusting. Especially if theres no signs of egg eating. Good luck! :)

I also have some new girls this year. My olive egger cranked out an egg every day right from the start. One of my blue egg layers was very sporadic for about a month but now she is laying nearly every day. I was also wondering if she was OK but now she is fine.

I'd give her some time while watching for any sign of a serious problem.

Thank you, that makes me feel better. Haven’t seen signs of any kind of sickness, so adjustment is what I’m going with. Thanks again!
