Guinea pigs really should be indoors, all pets (besides chickens, and even then some chickens do better inside!) would be better off as inside pets. Of course, they can go outside in an enclosed area to play, but in winter or when it's really hot it's better for them to be inside. Thanks for all the info everyone.![]()
So then are guinea pigs an indoor only pet or is it possible to make a little heated house? They're so cute I guess I should probably keep them indoors anyway but I guess I just thought I have the perfect spot for a hugee enclosure.
But wow, thanks for all the info on chins! Didn't realize the lived so long! That doesn't sound too bad though, besides the specific temps, lifespan, and no bathing but I probably should stick to an easier pet. I think I've heard of the dust bath though but so do they bathe themselves or do you have to do it? I thought they loved taking them? It stinks some aren't cuddly. I'll probably stick to a different pet for now though. Although just hay and food seems easier than veggies and everything but maybe not.
But yeah, I've heard rats really shouldn't use the balls either. I don't think any of the animals should yet they sell them.same with the other stuff![]()

Chins do dust bathe themselves, search for "chinchilla dust bathing video," and you will be rolling on the floor laughing!! they look sooo funny!!
It also depends on what you mean by "outdoor," if in a garage they can tolerate weather better.
Chinchillas are definitly higher mantinence than rabbits or piggies.
Good luck finding another animal!! always check local shelters first!![]()
(did you know rabbits are the third most euthanized animal in shelters in the U.S. due to space issues??)

That makes sense, especially since they're cute and cuddly and actually pets so most people would want them indoors anyway. It's just they also need so much space and I had a great idea but I'm sure I could find a spot to provide decent enough space inside too. Or perhaps making it a room instead of outdoor pen.
And ohh okay, thought so but wasn't sure. i bet it is adorable!!
It would be totally outdoors, build an enclosure, but perhaps I could put them inside the garage or I could make solid walls instead of a fenced enclosure. Either way I'd make an enclosed space though. But I'll probably go for indoor instead or smaller pets.
I'll avoid Chins too then.
But thanks and really? Wow that's sad. :/
Yep, next bunny I get I won't be a hypocrite and will get my bun from a shelter instead of a breeding pet store. My last one was saved from being soup!!!!!!!![]()
I am trying to convince my mom for a hamster, and I stumbled upon a list of great pets to have. I really think you should get a guinea pig!A long time ago, I had a friend with a guinea pig. She was the sweetest animal I have ever met (besides my dogs and cats. If my cat finds out I have said this, there will a hairball in my shoe). I think you can bring guinea pigs outside (not to live) to have them waddle around. Not recommended if you have hawks and stuff that could kill it. If you let a guinea pig play outside, it must be supervised. Good luck getting a new pet!
