that's what i had in mind. i think i'll go with the outside mount and insulated construction. i'm going to replicate the nest box structure on the other side to serve as a storage bin for bedding, supplies and feed.

My one month old chicks are loving their nesting boxes and roost

These were 12 X 12 and were mounted on the outside, BUT, we did not make the roof, liftable for eggs, yet... due to the weight of the liftable roof, G.kids and critters...
