Ok , what I meant was in my experience with the LAW and I have dealt with the sheriff who smirked and kind of laughed at the fact that I was upset over a dog killing chickens and then told the owner if I knocked on his door he had the right to shoot me. Yes I feel that the law is not going to be here to protect me so I have the right to take the law on my property in my own hands and deal with any dog or coyote the way I see fit.
Every man and woman for his or her own self this is what I mean by it.

The Sheriff told me unless I have proof meaning pictures, video and or other witnesses out side my own family unit then it was a case of my word against theirs. If those people swear it was not their dog nor their responsibility of what has happen then it is left to the judge to decide and if I do not have the evidence to prove in court it is still my word against theirs and again left up to chance that I may not win in court and a waste of more money. SO yes I feel I have no rights and I feel there is no law that protects me as a Chicken owner other than the Law of my own Gun.

And it is a fact in our homestead area there are "NO" leash laws. I am not inside Alvarado , I am out side of the city the law is different than what is inside the city limits. Out here where I live is all farm land and they allow dogs to roam free.

chick n dip, are you the child or the mom?? Either way, get the shooter in your house to shoot the dog. The dog is imprinted now that killing chickens is fun and easy and it will never stop. The thing is, we've bred chickens over thousands of years to be calmer and tamer and less able to fend for themselves. That means they rely on us to keep them safe. When you own an animal, it is your responsibility to house, feed, care for and protect your pets/animals. Especially when we are putting them inside a pen with no way out when a predator comes in. The dog has now learned that it is easy to get into and they really do get to having fun killing things. Keeping the dog up won't fix what the dog has already learned at your house. Often, when dogs get like this, it can escalate to killing other animals like cats to attacks on young children. Do everyone a favor and dispatch the dog. Do your chickens a favor and protect them better. It's not about the money, it's about 78 living creatures that you signed to care for for their ENTIRE lives. Animals are not expendable but you don't need a potentially vicious dog on your property. Killing things and tearing wires are only where it starts. I know you didn't WANT to lose them but 78 is a bit much. Please do something for their sake.
