nexting box idea-need input

What about the industrial grade nesting boxes that have a lip in front, that are 12" deep by 7 " wide. Blue, red or yellow? Would actually nest on top of each other as the space to get in would be too small. Cost about 2.00 per piece. Feedback?

That'd be ok for a cornish game hen, but in my mind way too small for a real egglayer .

How about 11 inch wide and two inch deep for a banty?

we built out nest that are 16x16 square just out of chip board and have wood chips and straw to lay on, the last nest is much smaller and they all fight for that one. is only about 10 inches wide. the most of my eggs are in the small one. and they love them HIGH up. the lower nest don't get taken much at all.

We have 12 x 12 x 4" deep and I would not want anything smaller for mine. They are black aussies, RIR, barred rock, and golden comet.

With the 1" lip on top edge of mine, they fit perfectly in between each wall stud on the wall where my nests are. Be sure that your roost is higher up than the nests are. If not, they will roost in the nests and fill them with poop every night. My nests are on N wall where there is no window or vents. They are at ht of 24". Roosts are on opposite side and the two endwalls, all at ht of 48". I never have poop in my nests and the litter will likely last a year in each as it does on the floor (because I have poop planks)

The nesting boxes is probably a misnomer. They are used to hold screws and small industrial parts. Any link for industrial plastics will have them. Just trying to be creative and cheap, or is it cheep?

My coop, used only at night, is a large Suncast cushion storage bin, 4 ' high, 6' long, 4' depth. Also can be used for multi garbage cans. Drilled open a large window in the back and covered it with chicken wire, have a hinged door in the front that acts as a ramp, and is closed at night. The whole thing faces into the enclosure where the banty's spend the day until they used to us. We will be putting up roosts and a few nesting boxes in there, probably little bins that I get from the dollar store and jury rig some way.

The Americauna's free load, the little snots. Lets hope the banty hens recover from stress and produce.
