I donno, all told our tags cost us... what $55-65 a year... think it's 55 for the car and 65 for the truck. Both are over ten years old, not anything fancy, no huge value... OH speaking of which. Get an old POS like our Taurus... odometer says 12000 ... because it's already clicked over the 100000 mark and has started over... NOPE they calculate the value, and thus your taxes, based on the 12k.... pretty dern sneaky if you ask me.

My Granny (Dad's Mom) is from Maine... love her to BITS... laugh every time we eat though because she refuses to say the word fork. Hehe... good times.

Car inspection here is $30 a year..
Registration here is $50 a year
Also have yearly excise taxes
Mass sucks...

I think inspection is about that here... DH usually handles those thankfully.

Sales tax varies by city, ours is 8.25%... no income tax at all for which I'm grateful, I hate tax paperwork.

hehe,

got a subaru-free inspection for life-but they get you on any repairs they think you need (dad's a former mechanic so he can spot the bull they try and pull!)
have to register my 2004 this month (probably online tomorrow). will cost me $136 for both city and state, the extra $1 fee to do it online, another $2.50 for the state stickers.
they upped the amount of taxes taken in on registrations last year and it was a good sized jump for my car.

what gets me the most is that if you ever move to Mass they will fine you for one day of not having your health insurance. you move there and get employment, the moment you claim residency you have to prove you had insurance for everyday there! or they will keep any tax money owed to you! we have a friend who moved from another state to work for a university and the school didn't provide him with any insurance for a few days and he didn't have any insurance left from his former employer! nailed him big-time by taking everything he paid in taxes for the year! OUCH!

Yep, NH is SO free we don't even believe in unauthorized cleanup. Listen to this state law regarding the White Mountain National Forest:

"...If a person is caught raking the beaches, picking up litter, hauling away trash, building a bench for the park, or any other improvement without a permit, he/she may be fined $150 for ''maintaining the national forest without a permit...''

Yup..when you file taxes here in mass.. you have to show proof of health insurance for the year or they can take your state taxes...
Not the federal..but the state..
Bas*ards...

hehe! and i always joke about the leaf peepers that have to come up and watch the leaves fall off the trees! guess i can't tell them to bring a rake and take some back-at least without adding that they need to get a permit first!

No, that's only in the White Mountain National Forest... I don't think anyone would complain if people tried to clean Rochester up!

(No offense, I lived there for 10 years and my dad still lives there now)
