I set out poison chunks as much as I hate to do it. I have tried to trap them but they figure it out and escape with the bait. I take 5 gallon buckets with the lids still on. I cut a hole large enough for a rat to squeeze through. I dip the bait chunk (Just one bite) in peanut butter and then drop it in the bucket, then I lay the bucket on it's side. Nothing but the rats can get into the bait.


I have yet to have a chicken or a dog eat the dead rats, and I find them everywhere. I pulled one out of the coop this morning that had been there overnight I am guessing by it's stage of rigor. The chickens hadn't touched it.

My vet told me that even if the animals ate the poisoned rats they would not be harmed. By the time the rats die, the poison is out of their system, plus any amount left would not be enough to kill second hand.

Well i bought a zap trap and have it out there and i got a havahart live trap. Hoping one of them gets the stupid thing. But one thing is for sure it WILL die !!!
