Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

@mandelyn

Yes the Mechelen are Malines. Same ones used for the Bielefelder. Are you sure 7 to 9 lbs because Greenfire is claiming 10 to 12lbs and hens 8 to 10 lbs. The Niederrheiner is available in Bantam size as well, just not in the US. And as far as colors, there is also a Crele version but some claim the Crele is the Bielefelder. There needs to be clarification with this as I've heard two different stories.
Greenfire's description currently (Feb 2017) states, "These are large fowl with the roosters sometimes topping 10 lb."

So it sounds like they have reduced their original claim by quite a bit.

What is the consensus so far on target weight for the standard?

I'm hoping for 10 pound birds! It's one more month until my first batch from GF comes in. How long does it seem to take them to get to full size?

I'll be interested in doing an egg swap, or buying hatching eggs before mine are laying. Only have 5 coming to get started since I have 4 other breeds in the order too. Would like to put most of my focus on these and the Twentse. This fall or next Spring I'll bolster the groups with another order.

We finally have stalls in the barn, moving some birds today to free up the brooder shed to make some adjustments to it before they get here.

We still need more people to agree to breed Neiderrheiners for 5 years and to develop a standard. If interested please reply with your contact information.

I'm still interested. I am just slammed at work until April 15th! I have 38 Niener eggs in the incubator right now.

WOW that is awesome. Let me know how many you get? I don't believe I have your email. We need to have everyone submit the characteristic that you are breeding for in the Neiderrheiners so that we can come up with a common but agreed upon standard. We had hope to have gotten a standard from Europe but no luck.

For anyone interested in having Lemon Cuckoo Neiderrheiners recognized by the American Poultry Association, please send me your email address. We need to have everyone submit the characteristic that you are breeding for in the Neiderrheiners so that we can come up with a common but agreed upon standard. We must have a standard before we can start collecting data and get credit for our breeding Neiderrheiner time. We need five years of breeding to a standard by five different people; additionally we need to be showing the Neiderrheiners but that also must wait until we get a standard in order to be credited for the shows. We had hoped to have gotten a standard from Europe but no luck. I have emailed the three people that I had addresses on previously so if you did not get my email please send you name and email along with any specific characteriestics you might have to help us come up with a standard.

The lady developing our standards has it just about ready to send out.
I would like to add you to the email list so that you will get a copy.
