If I weren't worried about somehow getting "restricted" in real life, I'd volunteer as an officer. Preferably a higher rank. I've studied the strategies of a number of great generals in depth - Jackson, Lee, Stuart, Washington, Greene, Forrest...

Here's a good tip - if you're outnumbered, divide your forces. It's the last thing the enemy will expect, and has an excellent butt-kicking track record.
