NIGEL did it again!! **GRAPHIC PICS**

That looks like a juvenile ermine in summer coat. AKA A Stoat. I don't think they are protected.

Ermine
Order : Carnivora
Family : Mustelidae
Subfamily : Mustelinae
Species : Mustela erminea

Stoats (Mustela erminea) are also called Short-tailed Weasels in North America and in winter, with its white winter coat, it is called an Ermine. The Stoat is a very opportunistic hunter, with its diet ranging from small rodents (mice and rats), rabbits, birds, eggs, even fish, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. It is also an extremely skilled treeclimber, descending from it with its head first, just like a squirrel. Once introduced in New Zealand as a means to control the rabbit population, it now is considered a pest there, since that did more harm than good. The term 'ermine' is also used for its fur, for which they are hunted in some areas. In the wild they are found in the north temperate regions of Eurasia and North America. The Ermine, stoat is listed as Least Concern (LR/lc), lowest risk. Does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category, on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

DANG!

With that said, I'm glad to hear you treated Nigel for his excellent work! I look at those photos again and still say, "Dang!" (Not as in Dang that happened oh woe, but DANG! That's some beast!!!! Nigel did GREAT!

My cat Sundae kills stuff like that all the time. Mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks, even a full-grown rabbit once

! She has never caught a stoat before. She even attacks my dogs when they walk through the door! She scatters the guts and heads all over the garage after she drops them at our feet. I guess you and I will never have a pest problem!
It's not like they can't see her though. She is like 90% pure white. She has a few black and peanut-colored spots on her ears, one black spot on her armpit, and a very dark tail that looks like it came from a way fluffier cat and sown on her. Very weird cats we have!

Looks like a different colored mink...man..good job Nigel. May I rent him out...?? LOL....he is a fierce kitty. Mine will only attack mice...I think I'll send it to your house for NIGEL TRAINING 101.

Length of tail proportionate to body says long tailed weasel. It's smaller than the last one he caught, and is probably a female or this seasons young male. There's a cat that earns his keep!
