Not sure how many know this but they are called night crawlers bc they come out at night! My grampa showed me as a kid how to catch them he was a big fisher. Anyways get a bucket and a flashlight and on a night after it rains you can get hundreds of them but you got to be faster then the worms they will suck right back down in the ground in a flash and dont pull them too hard or you will rip them. If they rip feed them right away to chickens the ripped ones will make all the others die if they are kept together.To keep worm alive mix dirt dead pin needles and leaves in bucket add worms to mix. sec take a bucket add water about a fourth full and last put the worm bucket into water bucket keep worms cool and they last alot longer. Oh and if you dont mind looking crazy we would hit up the ball diamonds after a rain they are crawling everywhere. hope this helps!

Thats how i catch them to fish. Another tip use a red lens on you flashlight or or rubberband red tissue paper or something similar over your light. You can still see them but they don't notice the light.
