Night Terrors? Need some input--

Not all night terrors are hormonal changes in a growing kid. There are sleeping disorders that cause them as well and are sometimes triggered by stress. The move to a new room will almost always trigger them for a bit at least in my experience.

Grew up with a massive sleep disorder family. Sister STILL has night terrors in her 30's, so does dad in his 60's. Brother and I have other forms, he sleepwalks and I have PLMD and sleep paralysis. None of us take meds that I am aware of but we do have to follow a routine to sleep or else our issues act up really bad.

I feel for ya! We only had a couple of episodes with our kids. The one thing that helped, strangely, was to run a bath and put them in the tub for a few minutes. A little kicking and warm water seemed to be a magic tonic. POOF! They were all better. It was a hassle to run the tub and all that, but it was the thing that worked.

What's funny is, years later when DD 14 has a hormonal teenager meltdown -- I send her for a bath -- it still works. She goes in like a hopping mad toad -- comes out a serene little beauty, LOL!! We must have magic H2O

My father and I both sufferred from night terrors. Yes, you do not have to be a child to get them. I had one so bad it caused seizures. My father would get so scared and tense his muscles so much that when he awoke and his body immediately relaxed it would cause temporary paralysis. You can't even breath when that happens. Routine sleep is what keeps me safe from it. True night terrors are not just nightmares. It is like you are lowered into the depths of hell and tormented by demons.

You got that right especially when a paralysis episode leaves you partially awake, though not able to move and the terrors start playing out in front of you and you can't get away, move, wake up fully, speak, anything......

When I was a kid, it wasn't well understood. I used to go to bed with crosses drawn on my nightgown. BTW the crosses seemed to help.

Definitely see the Ped. The only time mine ever had fits that bad was when teething was combined with an ear infection.

Between the two he was just miserable. Gums sore and hurting, ear hurting. It was horrible.

So thankful it was the only EI we ever had to deal with.

Just the usual remedies for teething (those vibrating teether jobbers were awesome) but antibiotics were the only way to deal with the ear. Within a couple days he was back to his sunny (sleeping well) self.

I'll be hoping that it's something as simple as that for you as well.

Our church wanted us to burn all our Mattel toys because they were convinced there was some sort of satanic thing going on in the house with all of us. Mom finally called in a children's sleep expert for my sister and he pointed out exactly what was going on with her, how to deal with it and what to expect for the duration. Then he pointed out a few things for the rest of us as well. Helped to know we weren't possessed

Lets us know what the doctor says. My sister was getting them so bad she tried to throw her self out windows. My parents have sliding glass doors that went to nowhere but a 20 ft drop cause the deck hasn't been built yet. She would run as fast as she could screaming the man was after her and try to throw herself out of it. Not fun. They finally work out how to stop them. She can not eat anything after 7pm. That's the only thing that works.

ok- now you are all scaring the crap outta me!

Update: Last night he woke up around 10:30, but just fussing, not full freak-out. He woke up again around 1:30. Daddy took care of him, but made the mistake of walking in to ask me some silly question. Baby saw me and NEEDED THE MOMMY!!!! SO: baby slept on my head all night: mommy laid there and tried to sleep

Tonight I put him down at ~730, and we had a pretty normal/scheduled day.
Daycare
Pickup
Play at home/play outside
Rake the coop (I know, totally awesome right?!! I can't keep him out of the laundry room because he likes to sweep, so he goes and gets the broom and dustpan)
Dinner 530-600
TubbyTime till 630
Pajamas and milk
Snuggle in the "Momma Chair" until asleep

Cross your fingers I get to sleep tonight!
