Nightmare hatch just keeps getting worse! Argh!

Looks like you still have several hours left to your day.

Since they are surprise you get to take care of them babies, do you have a brooder set up at all for them?

If not a rubbermaid bin or even a cardboard box will do.

Ill go get a picture of my brooder light fixture height so you can have an idea of how much heat they like. I usually use a 60 watt incandescent.

First hatched babies do tend to cheep for momma cause theyre used to getting what they want.

Both should stay out..... I had a hen with a trouble egg when I tried to put him back, she tried to peck him to death. He was our pet, then a hawk got him.

That is so awful! I am immediately familiar with that desolate feeling. I have been caring for a chick with a broken leg for nearly a month. His leg had healed, but we were working on strengthening so that he could support himself. Today, he was stolen off of my own bed, where I had left him while I did chores, by a rat. I found him under my bed, with the other leg taken. I am sick to my very soul. I detest predators. I am not one of those who are able to see it as survival, circle of life stuff. I still ache for the loss of my little Lulu, who we saved from an outrageous case of mycoplasmosis, which cost her an eye. We loved her so! A hawk caught her right in our front yard. My husband came upon the scene. Broke our hearts. At any rate, I am sorry about your baby! I wish there were a way to be certain they were safe. But, if not on my own bed, then where? :(
