Now THIS is good use of a Telus product! I made a nipple waterer from a dented aluminum Telus water bottle! The chicks took right to it. Western Canadians will know Telus as one of our phone companies. Cheers! Come see us on Facebook at Surrey Backyard Chickens! We are working hard to change the Surrey, BC bylaws to allow backyard hens on any size lot.

Just make sure it isn't airtight. There needs to be a way for air to replace the water going out or it will stop working when a vacuum is created. Just a tiny hole up above the water line.

Has anyone tried to transition from a traditional waterer to a nipple? I am thinking of setting up a pvc watering system into the chicken run and then maybe go to that inside the coop too.

Don't know if it counts, but my chicks had a regular dish of water for the first two days, then they figured out the nipple system. Once I'd seen each chick drink from the nipple, I removed the saucer. When DH and I get the big new coop built, my (adult) Marans will get to transition to the nipples too-- I'll update when that happens, if you haven't done it already!

Indeed! Two tiny holes were drilled on the neck of the bottle. Works perfectly! They had been used to a traditional watering font but caught on immediately to the nipple.

Given that it's a telus product, a pooper scooper might be a more appropriate use but you did well.

Awesome! Thank you for the info. I havent yet done the transition, spring time farming is taking priority over creating a new watering system but as soon as things quiet down here, DH has a new project!
