I'd add the following to the conversation. You should have at least 1 poultry nipple for every 8 birds in the flock. If the temperature is moderate, your girls will consume about 8 ounce of water per day per bird. It should be fairly easy to fill the waterer with a specific amount of water in the morning and measure what's left at the end of the day. Divide by the number of birds in the flock and you know how much they are drinking on average. Do this for a couple of days and you'll know for sure. If you want to get fancy, you can use our Chicken Waterer calculator on the BriteTap waterer web site. One of the calculators allows you see the impact of ambient temperature on water and food consumption. You should use the numbers provided as a guide. As they say, your milage may vary. -Mark
What I used was a 3/4" to 3/4" slip T with a 1/2" pipe thread. I then used a 1/2" to 1/4" pipe reducer and screwed them in.
Since they are tapered they will also work on tubing or on a bucket just drill a hole and push in,
Here is a better picture
I am trying to make a waterer out of an old Rubbermaid cooler. I can't seem to find the right adapter to fit the hole on one side and the tubing on the outside. (

the hose is that clear tubing and it's 1/2 inch. The hole in the cooler is 3/8. The problem is finding a nut to hold the 3/8 side of the fitting in the cooler. The one that we removed from the inside of the cooler has different threads than all of the fittings in the entire Home Depot. UGH!!!
