So I am about to create new waterers for the chickens since Texas is already getting too hot. I am looking to switch from cups to nipples.

I have read that the nipples can create a vacuum and cause them to not work. I have yet to see how big of hole I need to put in the top (would like it small so the water does not get dirty).

While it seems easy for the buckets like this (as soon as I find the size of the holes)

The insulated one seems worrisome.

Does it it even need one since kids use it for baseball?

It uses this and the same nipples as well as the following container.

Drill a 1/8 inch hole in top,, or on side of bucket near the top. No worry about a vacuum issue.
Here is a tip,,, for HOT areas.
Chickens will not drink hot water. Keep your waterer in the shade,,, and also throw in some ice inside.
Make sure your chickens know how to drink out of nipples

I could be wrong but I think you may be overthinking it. The nipples are gravity feed. All you need to do is seal the system up to the highest point as you would any closed plumbing system. But at the highest point, you can just hand fit the highest cap with a hole drilled in it You could put an ell and drill on the bottom side of the cap.
Using a mesh to cover it you can keep bugs out.

For our brooders we use 16 or 24 oz plastic bottles with vertical nipples. We have to keep the cap loose.

In the coop, we've got a 5-gallon nipple bucket. Hubby doesn't snap down one side of it. We put 1/2 teaspoon of RV water freshener in there to keep the bucket from getting slimy or the water from growing green things.

Our chickens free-range and do not go back to the coop for water. They would lay out here panting and dying before they'd figure that out, so we set out two ice cream pails of water in the shade and just stick a frozen water bottle in them to keep them cool for a few hours.
