No Animal Should EVER Have To Live This Way

My healthy dobermans have the same thing with the gas all the time. Even with trying different foods. I have tried to sleep with them in my room but ended up not getting any sleep with the constant waking up to that pleasant smell. I had to banish them to the living room.

There are some supplements that are supposed to help with that:

http://www.pupsup.com/ >> got a free sample from these folks at my last dog show. Unfortunately, we don't have that problem with our dogs, so can't tell you if it works!

He looks to be a decently bred Doberman. If at all possible, you should check to see if he is microchipped. Some breeders routinely chip their puppies. Most likely, a breeder would be happy to know what has happened and would be able to provide background information. And, if the dog did somehow get lost from a loving family, you be able to reunite them.

All shelters SHOULD have a microchip reader, and many vets do to.

You assume someone dumped him in your yard. Did you see it happen?

It just makes for people wanting to lynch dog owners...LOL....but anyway, if he was dumped, people sure can be miserable, if he was lost people might be looking hard for him.

maybe some lost dog flyers put up might find his owners, or call the pound and see if anyone inquired about a lost dobbie.

all in all---you did a very nice thing taking him into your home....he is very lucky and sure needed a meal.

Yes, please remember he could be lost and have owners looking for him. The first St. Bernard we had wandered away from home and it took a week before we got her back. We had called everyone we could think of around and made many trips to the woods trying to track her (it was winter) but had no luck. Then one night a phone call came. All of our calls paid off, someone had seen her. She was thinner than she had been when she left and very happy to see us. She was also 5 miles or so from home.

yea that is what came to mind with my first dog.

he was on a long chain and it broke....he was gone for about 3 weeks....drove me insane looking for him. I looked constantly. Just worrying like mad and come to find out he ended up in the pound, and they put an ad in the paper under lost dogs and said "medium sized blonde husky type dog found"---LOL--I knew it was Major and got him back.

So when I see someone find a lost dog my mind goes to "lost" instead of dumping I guess...LOL

From the condition of the dog I would put an add in the local newspaper to make sure the owners were notified. If someone DOES call to say that is their dog, inform them that because of the condition and health of the dog at the time he found you, that you will have to have animal control come out and see him to make a report on his health and who the legal owner is before you can release him. That way the animal control officer could assure them he/she will be doing a follow-up visit on the care of the dog. They would probably tell you to keep him rather than have their name on a animal control report. NO WAY would I just hand this dog over to someone that says he belongs to them without official reports on how mistreated he has been. They would probably treat him worse next time. Be sure and take pictures of him for animal control to see. The ones you have on this site would be just fine. JMO

Poohbear, well said.
RickiHupp please make sure that the individual that is claiming him also has direct proof that he is theirs. I had a friend that found a small poodle mix and put it in the paper so that the owners could claim it. Someone did and about a week later someone else with more definitive proof came around (she felt really bad and still feels guilty that she wasnt more careful about who she gave the pup to). As far as the wonderful smells that he is blessing you with, well at least you know his intestines are working lol. Good Luck!

dogs on their own starve faster than one might think. it does not take long for a pet dog to become thin. Many pets are left lost for a long long time also. Just cause it was weeks for us doesn't mean it was for this dog.

Also loose dogs avoid people sometimes. Scared etc. Dogs are not hunters and hardly can provide for their own survival. Eating garbage found etc. is not a great meal.

that dog simply looks like it hasn't eaten in a long time. and that might not mean neglect at all, just a bad situation for a lost dog.
