I got 4 chicks 3 days ago and the past owner gave me half a small bag of "multi-aged" chickens feed for all ages and it ran out today. I kept on telling my parents to get more chick food now but they are not buying any even though they keep saying that they will. :he I have no more food for them. Will boiled eggs with iceberg cabbage mashed together suffice until they get real food? How long can chicks live without eating? I really love these chicks and I don't want to lose a single one, please help!

I also have carrots but I don't know if it is nutritional. Iceberg cabbage is full of vitamins and eggs are, well eggs, they made these chicks.

Where are you and what age are you that you can't run to the feed store and get feed for them? I'm not good at substituting chicken food. Maybe oatmeal made runny, eggs are ok temporarily, but they need rounded nutrition and I don't think cabbage is gonna get it. Is there another farm nearby where you can borrow some? Good Luck! :hugs

There is no farm nearby and I am 15 so no, I can't drive. I do also have oatmeal that is can give them. Also, I just noticed that I typed cabbage, I mean lettuce. Whoops. 😬 I will feed them some immediately. Thank you.

Feed eggs right now, but leave soon to go get food....... like after you give them an egg.
Flock raiser style food should be fine if that’s what the store has.
For what it’s worth, my local Walmart suddenly started carrying chicken feed.
The closest store that has chicken food is 20 miles away. I can't drive. I will give them eggs until my parents eventually get feed, thank you.

Ok. Iceberg lettuce has little to no nutrition for little chicks. Eggs and runny oatmeal and if you have any birdseed, crush that up for them. If you have a food processor put the birdseed in that and get it as small as possible. They may like the lettuce, but may not know to eat it. Please impress upon your parents, or whatever adult is your caregiver that these chicks need food asap. Get 20 to 24% chick food for them, and some chick grit when you can. Good luck! :)

I did give them a bit of lettuce before I posted the thread, it was mashed, they ate it, They are not eating the oatmeal though. I will try to persuade my parents, thank you.

How old are these chicks? If they have feathers and it's not snowing or raining, you can set them outside and they can scratch around for bugs and such to eat. Please convince your folks to get some feed for them. I'm concerned now too! Please Mom! Please! :)

They only have a bit of feather on the wings, it is not that warm outside, and we have killer crows that mauled 2-month-old chicks to death, so no, I can't bring them outside. Sorry.

I took the family van out at 13 when I was angry at my parents and they weren't home....... it's possible, just saying. :p Anyway, if you have rice laying around, give them that. Cooked rice, they love it like a druggie loves crack!
