I'm happy to have found such an active forum! I am in Charlotte, NC and do not have chickens (yet). Right now I'm in the socialization stage where I'm throwing the idea out to the neighbors, seeing whom I can recruit to go in with me, researching and learning, etc. When I first mentioned the topic to my husband, he gave me one of those looks. Then yesterday, he came home with a "backyard chickens" book from the library! He's coming around!

Funny thing is, I already have a honey bee hive in my backyard. It's not like I don't have a reputation. For some reason, I think chickens are a bigger step than the bees but maybe chickens will be more normal to everyone else and no one will even care. It took me a couple of years to get the nerve to start the bees and it will likely be the same for the chickens.

In the "Where Am I? Where Are You?" forum, I looked through both postings for North Carolina. I only saw one other Charlotte chickener out of hundreds and hundreds of posts. I would sincerely be interested in meeting others within the city who keep chickens and would even love to have something like Raleigh's Tour D'Coop.

I'm looking forward to reading and learning more here!

From Mt Ulla NC 30 mi N of Charlotte. Charlotte has some strict rules about animals and many homeowners assoc have their own set of rules. I would check with animal regulations and see. I also would not take one persons opinion for this as i would want to see it in writing. Good luck
