Welcome, New2chickens55! I'm a first time chicken owner as of April this year and wish I would have found this site before I bought my coop. I started out with 6 pullets and even with one passing suddenly, my coop is way too small. But one of my girls laid her first egg Friday and another one today! It's exciting and if it's possible, I love them even more! Good luck and have fun!
 
I want to also say make sure you use hardware cloth and not chicken wire so it a lot more predator proof.

You can also get a wooden shed and convert it into a coop by adding windows and covering the windows if it opens with the hardware cloth. Make a few perches as well as nest boxes to collect eggs. Cut out ventilation for them at the top of the shed and cover it also with the hardware cloth. Make a small popout door to let them in and out into a run area.
 
Thank you for your advice...I am planning on having at most 5 standard hens or 3 standard and 2 bantams. I am only allowed 6 in my area anyway. Again thanks

Thanks for the welcome and congrats on your 1st eggs...can't wait until I have everything in place so I can get my birds.

The measurement part gets confusing...so if the coop/run combo I am getting is 10 × 6 with the coop being 4× 6 and the run 6 × 6 plus the remainder of 4 × 6 under the coop ...how many chickens can I have...

No more then 6.
4 would probably be better.
