I'm super excited to get some chickens. I found this site to get lots of useful tips on coops, feed and different types of chickens.
My mom was raised on a farm and I got to collect eggs when I was a kid. Would love to have a flock of my own and bring our family back into growing, gathering our own food.
Silkies have always been my favourite. Can you suggest more for me?

There are so many great breeds. If your looking for great egg layers then leghorns, road island red, sex links & barred rocks are great - plus there are several more. Look at the learning center tabs above or google best egg layers.
I have a mixed flock - Love all the fresh eggs & the little feathers dinosaurs lol

Silkies usually make great broodies but, they are not reliable layers. They are a favorite with kids and often tolerate being dressed up or pushed in a doll stroller. Other breeds tend to pick on them because they don't look like regular chickens.
