My city has not approved backyard chickens but there are cities around us that allow them. There is an active group lobbying for them and I know there are chickens kept by members of that group. I thought I'd see what it entails and get a much info as I can in hopes that chickens will be allowed soon. We live in South Florida.
As a side note, I transport rescue animals and a few years ago I transported a chicken bound for a farm in Ocala.

What a great service you provide transporting rescue animals. So glad you joined us at Backyard chickens.

You may want to check out the "people with house chickens," thread. It's one way to have chickens without upsetting anyone. My friend has had house chickens for over 25 years - various breeds but, seems to do best with seramas and silkies. They are both bantam (small) breeds and accept confinement. They could just as well be exotic parrots. Silkies don't look at all like chickens and seramas are tiny.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Fingers crossed for you that you will be able to keep some chickens in the future. Drumstick suggestion is great in keeping some house chickens as a way round if you are unable.
What a lovely thing you do transporting rescued animals, that's so nice.

Wishing you the very best of luck and enjoy BYC :frow
