Hi all - one of my older ladies is down with what I presume is coccidia - back end soiled with droppings, not foraging like everyone else, head tucked, dark liquidy stools (not bloody yet but I'm sure that's coming). I'm very familiar with it in dogs and cats, but this is my first go-round in poultry and I was unable to find any meds at my local farm store yesterday evening. I will order medication today online, but what should I do in the mean time? Electrolytes, special feed, etc? Also, which medication(s) do you prefer?

Thanks for any help!

Thank you for the information. No I don't worm prophylactically and have never had any evidence of them needing worming...always healthy, active, normal poo, etc. I've read quite a bit about parasites becoming resistant in other livestock, so I'd prefer not to worm unless needed. As far as her immunity goes, I raised another batch of chicks this spring so I'm assuming they are harboring a strain of coccidia that she isn't immune to, even though all of my chickens have been purchased from the same hatchery. Anyway, I plan on treating everyone and see how it goes from there. Again - thanks for your help.
