No crow collar opinions

I have the most wonderful rooster but he crows SO loud. He was waking us and our neighbors up at 5 am every morning so I brought him in the house until the shed was finished converting into a chicken coop. It’s brick and insulated, the best part is attached to my house. This morning while he was in his crate he crowed at 4 Am, 5 Am and 6 AM.

While he is in the house I’m wanting to at least quiet the crow and I saw that there are no crow collars. Which I know doesn’t stop them from crowing but it quiets it quite a bit. Does anyone have any experience or use one?

Thanks!

I have used one and I’d say that it reduces volume by around 40-50%. Unfortunately, those times on a morning are so quiet normally - even halving the volume of a rooster giving it the full beans doesn’t cut it. That’s my experience, at least.

No-crow collars seem to get some members all bent outta shape so don’t be surprised if some posts on your thread do not answer your question or help :(

There is some dedication needed when using the collars. I got them for both mine. It did refuce volume and frequency(which wasn't often). You will have to adjust it, that can take a couple weeks, then you should check it daily and always watch their breathing. I was dedicated to doing all of this. One day I came home and my boy collapsed in front of me flopping around. First thing I did was take the collar off, then stick my finger in his mouth to clear his airway. To this day I do t know of it was the collar or he ate something to bug and was choking. I'm leaning toward eating something to big because the collar was not tight at all. I gave left the collar off and took it off the other boy. As of now they do not crow often, so I will only put back on if crowing is out of control.

I’d figure I would at least try it.

Thank you for your story. Hearing it’s worked out makes me feel better. I’m sorry about your boy! I would have freaked out! Glad he’s okay now.

Where should I get them? I’ve only read a little bit about them

I was in the same boat with a beloved surprise cockerel and tried a no crow collar -- very carefully. We got it online -- mypetchicken.com, I think. But our boy was a determined crow-er. It didn't stop frequency or volume. Instead, he would shake and move around oddly after crowing, so it clearly made him uncomfortable and/or caused him pain. We quickly found him a new home with lots of hens and no need to be quiet. Good luck to you with your boy. As with everything, I think it all depends on the individual (person AND bird).

Its inhumane, people can sugar coat it all they want but it remains truth. Google it and see how many tragic stories you find involving no crow collars. If one should not keep a rooster for whatever reason be responsible and find it a responsible home.
That’s like saying a dog wearing a color to stop from running off is inhumane. I’m allowed to keep a rooster where I am. If you read my post I just wanted him to temporarily wear the collar, in my HOME. Don’t be a jerk. If you don’t like my post leave. ‍♀️

Thanks for your opinion? I guess.
