I live in England and its getting toward the end of winter here. All my hens stopped laying through December but this is what happened in the new year:
*Hen 1 restarted laying right at the beginning of January, 4 or 5 eggs per week
*Hen 2 laid approx 6 eggs and then went broody (again)
* Hen 3 restarted laying early January, only 2 eggs per week
* Hen 4 still hasn't resumed laying
* Pullet 1 started laying for the first time, 3 eggs per week
* Pullet 2 started laying for the first time, 5 eggs per week.
This means (not including the hen that went broody), 4 of my chickens were laying in January. Fast forward to mid February and all but pullet2 have stopped laying again! The other 3 have not laid for at least the past week to ten days.
Is this normal for them to start laying again after the darkest days of the year and then stop? What's going on? They all seem healthy enough, just not laying a thing....
