Bad timing to hope for continued laying. Winter is here and some breeds are much more light needy than others. My Speckled Sussex simply went on walkabout - I doubt they will begin laying again until February.I know winter is approaching and I don't intend to light their small coop, although I have wired it. Could it be that we have only been relying on layer
feed. We have not supplemented them with oyster shell
Thank you Spartan. Just started with the oyster shells.Will be good to supplement w/ calcium (crushed oyster shell) to strengthen their egg shell in case some are already laying but eggs shells were weak therefore end up breaking and being eaten. I have that first hand experience with some of my new layers couple of years ago.
