No girls now what?

Seeing that they are sex link also makes the fact that you were unfortunate enough to get all males out of a "straight run" make more sense - I would suspect someone who recognized the chicks for what they were had already taken all the females so the "straight run" tub was left with nothing but males in it.

Oh wow! Thank you so much! Boy you know your stuff and I have much to learn. So I should just start processing. I will post later today just to be double sure. Ekkk this will be stressful. Poor birdies I gave them a good life so far.

I completely missed in your first post they were crossed. . must be blind today... in that case I'm afraid Ol Grey Mare is right. .. somebody recognized them as sex links and got one heck of a deal on a bunch of hens and cleaned them out... or the place selling them recognized what happened and dropped the price to get rid of a bunch of roos (a bit unethical if that were true)

I went back to the feed store but they had new kid working and I wanted to say "have you gotten any feed back on the chicks?" I should have known something was up cause they were there each time I returned and then they dropped the price I thought it was more of a breed thing...... Live and learn, I will move these guys out and make room for more chicks..... I love getting chicks! I'm addicted!

And that's one of the great things about raising your own food.

X 2 - you have control over the whole process and know the sort of life your dinner had, which can be a comfort when compared to thinking of the life lived by the commercially grown and processed meat animals. One of the other members here uses the phrase along the lines of "knowing they had a whole lot of good days, and one really bad one" - and, really, if the processing day is done right it isn't all that bad for them at all.

Yep. I don't have the room to do this, and I don't eat a lot of meat, but I'm extremely picky about where my meat comes from when I do. Same with my dairy and eggs (back when I still had to buy them). I feel lucky to live in a place where I have the option to be picky in this manner.
