That's why it's so confusing..i am very observant and love watching them. No one defers to anyone. They all scramble for treats with no one being first. The Welsummer is definitely timid and bottom girl.

If you have observed the welsummer being timid and determined her to be bottom hen then you do see her defer to someone else.


The signs can be quite subtle really.

Our leader had been gentle, but now she likes to peck the other chickens. Especially now that she is molting and grumpy.

The grumpy will pass. She is making sure everyone remembers she is the boss even though her dress is a mess.
