No heat in the coop and dead bird

Heat tape could do it. That's very true about Christmas lights. I haven't been able to find that article again to see exactly which ones were used. But the comment was that they were extra safe due to being fused.

Much testing of temps would be needed to avoid burns and for me i like the idea of some fabric or something. Brushed vinyl like camping air mattresses comes to mind. You can scrub and hose that stuff.

****Please note, they had a thermostat of some kind regulating the temps****

Well my Lady Hens have voted, thumbs down on the pvc pipe in cold weather. They are only using the au natural branch! So I hope the heavy-duty 250w heat light warms the pvc for them. Will have to wrap them with some type of material for gripping and won't irritate their feet. Found online, vetwrap? May work in subzero temps, we'll see.

Good idea, I think I'll give them a flat perch to roost on. A couple of the girls were on the flat wood perch in front of the nesting boxes when I went in to switch to a 250w light. I know a couple of them prefer a flat surface. Looks like I'll remove one of the pvc perches and switch it out with a piece of flat wood. Will have to see if my husband has something in the wood pile that will work or I'll be shopping, again.

Warmer tonight! Had to point it away from the perch. Two of the girls definitely prefer the flat perch!
