No hens for me this year.

Depending on how long ago the painting was, you can persue restitution in small claims court (or it's Canadian equivalent). How large is your lot? Since you have a history of poor relations with this neighbor, you may be able to convince the city to allow you to participate anyways so long as the birds are kept as far from his lot as possible. Good luck!

Hey Bedhead! You don't need to have neighbor permission to keep bees, here in Edmonton. Just a license which is easy to obtain.

You know, just FYI. If you get any ideas.

Unfortunately bees are excluded by the same bylaw as chickens:

27 (1) No person shall keep or have any of the following on any premises with a municipal address in the City:
(a) a Large Animal or the young thereof;
(b) poultry;
(c) bees; or
(d) poisonous snakes, reptiles or insects.
unless permission to do so has been granted by the City Manager.

I also would LOVE to get a goat, and I could if I could find a breed that is less than 10kg as an adult!! Or rabbits....maybe I'll build a chicken coop and keep rabbits in it.

twentynine, you have NO idea how much I would love to do just that. It just may come to it one day soon. The only thing holding me back right now is the fact that he'd probably decide to make our lives miserable on other little ways. For now I'm going to ignore him.

And FTR I would LOOOOOOOVE to move into the country. Hubby won't go for it though.

BedHead,

Rats, you need to start keeping rats, big rats and not the ones from the local pet store.

As for the chicken poop, find a list of all the bad things that are connected to dog or cat poop, next time the commercial farm inspector talks about chicken poop shove one of those lists in front of him.
