I am very interested in the reaction of my cats and hens. I have been taking the chicks outside to their run for 3 weeks; a couple of hours each day. The oldest cat, 15.5 yrs, just looks at them and goes about his business. The female, 2.5 yrs, lays next to the run staring at the chicks (cat tv). The youngest male, <1 yr, loves to run from one side of the run to the other chasing the chicks.
The cats know that most of the time the chicks are in their brooder in the garage. They never try to get in after them.
Another 2 weeks and I thing that the hens will be able to fend for themselves. I actually hope that the cats learn to protect them.
