You must be transplanted then? (Your avatar has another state?)

I just came home from Crescent City, the Sea Cruise Car Show. I lived in Redway for years as a child, my sister still lives there. We used to go to Eureka to do our monthly Grocery shopping (that was the big city.) I still get up there sometimes, and I go to the poultry show, The Humboldt Poultry Fanciers, when they have it too.
When I was 10 we moved to Los Angeles. That warped me. We moved around Southern California some before I returned North as an adult. Now I'm living in N. Cali./Chico/Forest Ranch to stay.

I am going to be having a more serious breeding program in the future. Right now all I have is Cuckoo Marans, that I ship out in small amounts for the cost of shipping only. Just for fun.

Riverside county here, out in the boonies off of a dirt road. Will be looking for Cuckoo Marans and Buff Orphingtons as soon as DH gets the coop in.... probably in spring, 'cause it snows up here and I wouldn't want anything to freeze because it wasn't acclimated.

I'm in Walnut,CA

I have lived in Southern California my whole life. I would like to know who else here lives in the area and has chickens. I am going to try to keep a chicken or chickens again. However, my yard needs some work and I have not contacted the city yet regarding the keeping a chick or two. I do not want to give them a heads up. I will probably keep one chick indoors. A better breed for this would be a Silkie.

I have really dumb neighbors and most people in this area know nothing about their children let alone chickens /animals and they would freak at the sight of a robin landing in their front yard.

At different times in my life, I have had chickens. I have had four birds and they were all great birds.

One of my birds was a two and a half foot tall rooster. He was a buff Cochin. When it got dark at night, he would tap on the glass patio door and my husband would let him in. He, the rooster, whom I called Godzilla because he was so big, would make a beeline for my lap. There he would sit watching television until he fell asleep. Then, my husband and I would take him out to his nest box for the night. I just loved that bird. I am single now and I miss that bird more than I do my husband.

The Ventura County Poultry show is on Saturday October 25 and I can hardly wait. God! Please don’t let me go cuckoo and buy a flock.

Hope you get good news on the codes in your area, or welcome to House chickens! I know there are online forums for them also! And chicken diapers too!
We will enable you here! Chickens are addicting, and we all have it! I have lived down south too, but I live in the North now! Welcome, nice to meet you!

Hi Tina,

I'm currently living in the Palm Springs area and am considering relocating to Chico/Paradise area. Anywhere near you? In fact, I supposedly driving up there this weekend on a 'fact finding mission'.

Yes! I work in Chico, my kids go to school in Chico. I live 14 miles above Chico on a ridge called the Doe Mill Ridge!! Its AWESOME!! Anything you wanna know, Ask!!
Great area, even though I'm kinda anti-social, there are fantastic people and it's a great community, no matter what your interests! Mine include family, animals, gardening, and outside activities!!
