No More Caffeine -blargh!

What's everyone's favorite high quality decaf? oooh, DH is going to Germany next week, I'll have him fill up the suitcase

If you do decide to give it up, don't go cold turkey, wean yourself away. At least for me, messing with my caffeine intact causes such lovely things as "wish you could die headaches" and vomiting. Cut back half a cup, then a few days later half a cup more, until you reach none. I've done it for the "girls" before, and while it helped, it wasn't that much. I just watched what I ate, and avoided chocolate at certain times of the month and that helped much more. Exercises that used my pects would also cause problems with the girls if I did to much at the wrong time. I also find the amount of fruits, veggies and red meat makes a difference for me.

I take it that would be, less red meat, more fruit and veggies? No chocolate either? Come to think of it, there was quite a choco binge last month.

I will cut back by alternating coffee and something else the next few days, getting some GOOOOD decaf (not the bargain store brand) and drinking more water. Cut out the red meat to once a day, and no cured meats (that is from a different doc for different reasons, but bacon gets blamed for as much stuff as coffee and chocolate these days).

thank you all so very very much for all the ideas.

I gave up caffeine years ago - but DO NOT MESS WITH MY BACON!!!!!

I've decided if I make it to 80, I'm going to have chocolote-coated bacon dipped in coffee for breakfast every day, and no doctor better stand in my way!!

I've tried everything to help my "girls" around that time...cut out salt, cut out sugar, cut out caffeine, cut out chocolate, all while trying not to kill those around me and none of it has helped...I've decided nothing is going to work short of cutting out the girls themselves. And I'll admit that sometimes it gets to the point where that is not entirely out of the question!

orchid, there is a certain logic in what you say. I'll give this a couple months, if I can make it that far.

Chocolate dipped bacon - would that be dark or milk chocolate?

eta: I'm asking the very next doctor if he/she smokes, drinks coffee, eats chocolate, etc... If they do, why shouldn't I?

I had a two pronged approach to the girls. One, don't have enough for them to be a bother. Two, reach a certain age.

I achieved both my goals.

Going cold turkey on caffeine withdrawal is not to be messed with. You will get horrendous headache, for up to 3 days or more. I am with gritsar, go shopping for a new over the shoulder bolder holder. I would go as far as going to a real osbh store. Have them measure up correctly and buy at least one osbh. I have been doing enough reading and the negative impacts from caffeine are not as bad as some studies have stated. I would also be doctor shopping for someone a little more sensitive than the clod you are seeing. I would be looking for one that really understood the difference between a scare tactic study and a legitimate empirical study. So many times what we hear or read of as facts, are really over blown conjecture by both the media and a scientific group that just wants something published.

On the other hand I am usually to lazy to make myself any coffee in the morning. I have also been known to take a cup of coffee with me to bed. I can drink a regular cup, and pass out with any troubles. I don't recommend for anyone else to try this.

I think I just might make myself a cup.
