No More Eggs?

I got two, year old Ameraucanas two weeks ago. I kept them in a wired dog kennel in the coop, including nesting box for a week so that they knew that was home. They both were laying eggs for the first week. Now that I've released them from the kennel, there hasn't been an egg since. Both roosted in the coop for 3 days before one started venturing outside. The other one still hasn't left the coop. Could it be that they are still getting used to their new home and that is why they aren't laying? They are both Easter Eggers, not pure Ameraucana's. They will be great layers for you.

As for laying, they are still adjusting to their new home. And at a year old, you can expect them to go into molt soon, and they can't lay eggs when they molt.

I agree with Happy Chooks.. Egg production can be effected by many variables. Weather, time of yr, light, age of chickens, molt, feed, stress (which includes the move/change in habits of other chickens/different.new 'pecking order' routine/ feeding habits/ coop mates/ weather/ lighting/ predator harassment(you might have a different dog/cat etc than was at the old place/ new shavings etc)..

Give them a while and they will come back around. I had a true Ameraucana who was a great layer (5eggs wkly) but EVERY single time I added shavings She wouldn't lay for days... Then it would be a huge (for her) egg, then back to her pretty blue egg until the next time I added them.. Nothing else was different and I didn't replace them on a schedule.

Thank you Happy Chooks & Queen Bee! Kate (the white/brown one) is out running around with the Orpingtons now. Farrah still hasn't left the roost. It is quite entertaining to watch them. Patiently waiting for eggs....
