:-( No more free ranging for my kids.

OK. They have found two places to hide: one is underneath the truck, the second is underneath the deck.

Does anyone have any bright ideas how to train them to run under there if I spot danger?

This is why I am afraid to free range. I don't have a rooster to protect them (and can't have one in the town where I live) but I know they'd love to go out and hunt all the lovely bugs and worms in my yard.

That's why I only let mine free range when I'm with them. It does give me a reason to stay outside longer, even if to just sit in a chair and read a book or just watch them. The problem with free ranging is you will lose chickens to predators. It's like a kid and a cookie jar.
