No No No No No No!!!!

So is that all it is about? Copyright laws?

Let me try to understand this... Bear with me....

This law (act), if taken effect, will only keep people from stealing music, pictures and videos.
Is that about the jist of it?

What was I heard about them doing something with paypal and online (overseas?) sales?

Geniuses!! Put this in a nutshell for me!

Yup.

I totally agree, there will be heavy censorship of sites like Youtube, because people STEAL artists music and use with out permission. If you were the one that wrote the lyrics and music, paid for the musicians and recording studio, the publication, the advertising etc. You might not be pleased that people STEAL your time efforts and money to use on their video.

That's just enforcing the laws.

Stop acting as if we can trust the thieves and liars in Congress and the various Federal agencies. We CAN'T. They are not going to restrict themselves to enforcing copyright laws! Have you learned nothing from history? History tells us that when government gets power, it will be abused, no matter how "benevolent" the original intent was, and no matter the wording itself. This bill is unnecessary, unconstitutional, and dangerous. It must not pass.

Can I agree anymore completely?

I have many friends that have had their images stolen and used for the profit of others. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get a penny out of the thief and takes hours and hours of work tracking them down to get them to stop.

Telling people to panic because the internet is going away is not helpful (not Q9 that said that!) Reading and understanding the whole of the issue is important and it bugs me that people will key on one word in a bill and pass it around like the sky is falling.

That's exactly why I'm trying to understand exactly what their plans are. Not what their perceived plans are.

I saw everyone freaking out over a bill (that may or may not get passed) without fully understanding what it means. I've watched you fight for copyright infringement over your images and I'd join in that fight every day if needed. But what is this bill really saying?

Is it only going to reinforce copyright infringement or is there more to it than that?
Why would anyone get their panties in a bunch over protecting what is already theirs?

*Sigh*

Look, I'm going to say this one more time: MY issue with the bill is that it can and will (like every other piece of legislation) be twisted and manipulated by the Feds. For all I know, the bill in and of itself may be harmless, but it can be twisted. The biggie, however, is that Congress is not granted the power to pass this kind of legislation. This is law enforcement and does not fall under Congress's powers in Article 1, Section 8.

As short as possible: It can be twisted for censorship, and it is not constitutional.

Q, if the law is unconstitutional and I agree it is it must go through the procedures of determining its' unconstitutionality. after it is law. Not passing a law if it "may" be unconstitutional is not how it generally works. I wish it did work that way sometimes.
