No nostrils or closed please help!

ditto on nares being occluded and most certainly looks like a cockerel

Tried cleaning them. They look a little better but they still look very closed compared to my others. I just posted pics. The nostrils lift but cover the hole. Thoughts? I also posted pics of my other 3 hoping for sexing opinions. Thanks!

It's difficult to tell from the pictures, but it almost appears as if the nostrils are occluded with something. Perhaps you might try moistening a Q tip and gently rubbing on them. I am fairly certain that the bird pictured is a cockerel.

X2 sour. I zoomed in and the nostrils just look dirty. Also I agree that the bird is male.

having totally blocked nare passages in babies is called choanal atresia. The occlusion is usually farther back though, not where you can see it. These babies cry all the time because that is the only way they can get any air to breath (newborn babies are obligate nose breathers meaning they are not born knowing how to breath through their mouths)

I am not a vet but I am a NICU nurse, but I am guessing animals and birds can be born with the same or similar condition. If so, and your chicken had such, it would constantly have the mouth open to breath.

Does anyone know if there is such a condition in chickens? Just curious, and wondering if there is do they have issues with eating as chicks?

Thank you. He can breath with his mouth closed and seems to be eating fine. When he runs a lot he mouth breaths though.
