The nest boxes are built of wood with a slanted roof so they won't roost there. The run is 12' square, but low so I have to bend a little. I'll try to send pictures

I agree, a few fake eggs or golf balls in the nest boxes will help encourage them to lay there.
The golfballs didn'twork, but the real eggs did. We realized the space under the nests was big enough for them to lay underneath so put a board there and added a step ramp. My PENNY jumped right into the nest and so did someone else ~2 eggs! We have all brown egg layers so I had planned to paint the golfballs, not now. Thanks Evelyn from Fort Myers, FL![]()
Hi from Jacksonville.![]()
Chickens like to lay eggs where other chickens have laid eggs. I would offer you a couple of suggestions.
A) get some golf balls and place them in the nest box so they look like splendid places to lay eggs too.
B) pick up the eggs they lay on the floor and place them in the nest boxes not for long just until they go to roost at night.
My chickens prefer to lay on straw rather than pine chips. What is the medium you are using on the floor of their coop. Maybe they like it.
