no one seems to understand me!

They don't know what they are missing then, do they?
Get a 'little red hen' attitude. That was my favorite book as a child, and now that I am old, I like it even more.

I would turn around and tell them "Ok, then. You go ahead and eat the chemicals and artificial additives, and I will eat my organic, homegrown, chemical free foods" And then smile. So they won't eat it - more for you. Tell them tobring the hot dogs for themselves and they can watch you eat a nice big fat juicy homegrown rib-eye.

If only they knew that our meals, if served in a restaurant, would cost at least $30 a plate.
We eat like Kings!!!!!!!!!

HAHAHA! Personally, I am humbled by people who grown their own ANYTHING. I haven't the time or the right soil, room for cows etc. I would LOVE to. My first "garden" will be on my kitchen counter with tomatoes.

Your not a freak at all.How do those people think mankind survived for centurie's?There weren't meat packing plant's,local grocer's,WalMart and KFC and Mc D's back then.Everyone had their own chicken's, cow's pig's, sheep and just about every other meat and it had to be processed in backyard or village.I would rather have a natural localy processed beef or a home grown pig anyday over store bought meat.I have been raising bird's for 6 years and I don't give mine chemical feed's and the last 5 year's most of mine free ranged on pesticide free grass and I had alway's the best looking "healthy bird's.My friend has raised her 2 girl's and 3rd one now at almost 2 on a old style farm and wont feed them store bought meats.Yes they are smaller than a lot of kid's their age but think about it.The horomone's in food's are making our kid's Huge before their growth pattern's and then adding in all the fat's, sugar's and additive's which We most can't pronounce....FAST FOOD NATION.If you can process your own food and live in area where you can have them go for it.Tell your friend's go visit a slaughter house once or a MECCA farm where their meat come's from!Your cost for feed and upkeep may be a lil more but if you went to market and bought everything organic...

.There are some good tip's online for organic raising of meat and veggie's and herb's.Think a lot of people gonna be in the dark and hungry one day my opinon if people don't wake and realize We do survive on a food chain It's just up to Us as human's how We manage it.

I get the same thing, but lots of people in my area raise their own food.

I love the chickens! I've wanted them since I was a little girl and finally have them. And I'm a grandmother!

I know people who love the chance to get eggs. Lately I'm hatching everything thats laid though. LOL

My SIL told my daughter to never try to sneak in any of my eggs. He wants his "clean" store bought eggs. They don't like the idea of free range. My daughter is a store manager and the chain sells free range, but they think it's something too yuppie?????

That's fine with me. Angel Food cake is my favorite. Know how many eggs those take? I love quiche....ummmm...more eggs. Oh but holidays? Guess who they beg deviled eggs from?

I'm getting set up for quail too. Wonder if they'll think those tiny deviled eggs are from baby chickens...........LOL

I do have a problem though. I can't kill anything. OK, I can clean and gut a fish. Hubby said he can kill them for me, but I have to clean them. Don't know about that. I may have to raise enough to share with someone who can do the processing.

I haven't got much of a garden this year. Why bigger yard, like 1/4 acre, but have had some resent deaths in family and haven't gotten to this new yard. It's aweful! I could really use my guineas right now.

I'm looking for something in or near this area with enough property to raise what I want. Hopefully I'll have more time to look after school is out.

I say "YES" you are a freak. I am!

Don't you wish your girlfriend was a freak like me?????

Forget all those people. You have us. I have all of you. Live is good!

I am 28, hubby is 29 and people look at us like we are from another planet when they find out we have 7, yes 7 gardens, goats, chickens, and ducks. We are the only people we know who raise chickens for eggs. I will never again buy store eggs. We are rasing goats to sell to the 4-H and FFA kids and already have orders for next year and we haven't even had any kids yet!

The stuff I grow in my garden is far superior to anything I have bought in a store. Hubby and I start everything from seed in our bedroom. We have such a great feeling of accomplishment when we harvest and then can or freeeze what we grew. It is so nice to be able to walk outside and pick a tomato, some lettuce, a carrot and go inside and make a salad. This year we added fruit trees to our yard, plus a lemon, lime, and orange tree to our bedroom (don't ask!)

I love the fact that I have to buy very few things at the store and haven't bought store canned veggies in over 3 years!

If your "friends" don't understand what you are doing, then I guess they weren't real good friends to begin with!

You should make a copy of that HBO pig farm undercover movie. It was VERY upseting to watch what goes on in just one pig farm.

If people rolled there eyes at me one to many times I would not be having them over, and I certainly would not give them produce.Well,OK I would give them stuff ONE TIME just so they could see what they are missing out on.Sure they can buy the organic stuff at farmers markets now,but so many of us get a greater personal satisfaction doing it all on our own.

I only do eggs and some fruit/veggies and I am thrilled! My family back in Europe raised pigs and chickens for meat.It was a *given* that 2 times a year a pig was killed.Chickens were killed all the time, and you just chatted all the while killing and cleaning....then eating a great dinner!

I feel like that a lot - like people don't understand me. I get "Why do you have all those animals?" "Why do you need more chickens?" "Did you really need another horse?" ......it all gets old very quick. I've just learned to get over it and be myself no matter what. If you don't like me or how I live and what I choose to keep, then don't come around! It comes down to, you are either an animals person or your non..there is no in between IMO. I don't process any of my animals, but certainly don't look down upon those who choose to do so.

I wouldn't worry about what people think, just do your thing and be happy!

A friend will respect your point of view, even if they disagree with it.

Hey dont feel bad about being called a freak. I have been called trailer trash by my own fam for having chickens. I still dont understand how one relates to the other but Oh well!!!! Anyway I have just recently gotten 5 chickens. But all I can say is that it all has been so worth it already. I have three kids and seeing them have the experience of watching and raising these chicks has been awesome!!!!
Even for me and my husband it has been amazing!!! I have had so much joy from these little chicks. They havent even started laying eggs yet but I cant wait till they do!!! Home grown eggs are sooo much better! And I will be sharing those eggs with my neighbors and freinds also when the time comes. So hang in there- sometimes people are just ignorant. I guess thats why I have as many animals as I do- they are non-judgemental and love me and my fam for us. (Give me alot of joy also-sometimes more than most people I know)
