I have already posted many times about this to no avail..... Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have 3 hens that are sick. I took one in to the Avian vet 1.5 weeks ago for watery diarrhea and vomit. She was losing weight and had fly strike. They cleaned her up and gave her Baytril. The vet also gave me extra Baytril to treat my other 2 hens. Aside from Baytril, they have had Safeguard and show no signs of worms or other parasites. NOW, the hens still have diarrhea and one is vomiting water like stuff. They all are eating and drinking fine, pooping is often and totally watery. Since they've been on the Baytril, nothing has changed. So.... I have stopped this strong medication now. I am afraid it will do more harm than good. Their poops are mostly a very light brown, and light greenish mush. I am scared this is something that is so simple, but after spending $415 at the vet recently for these girls, I am at an end on what I can spend. No gram stain has been done on the poop, and I am not willing to spend another 50-$200 on a test and meds. Can someone help me? Does anyone have any idea what I can try next? Do they have Giardia? Coccidiosis? I mean they all have it. They are all in the run together. Non of the other hens in a different run have these symptoms. So to re-hash:

Hens have been sick with diarrhea, and sometimes watery vomit - Butts are we from watery poop and have to be rinsed daily.
No decrease in hunger or water drinking
They have been being treated with Baytril (no changes from it), have been dusted for mites, and had Safeguard
They have been given a Keifer (yogurt) mash once a day to try to introduce good bacteria back
Coop and run are cleaned often

Possibilities? Giardia? Coccidiosis? Treatments I could try that are not super pricey? HELP PLEASE!!! I am leaning toward Giardia given the circumstances. Treatment?

Thank you! I don't want to lose any of my girls. :(

I can't offer any help. Just wanted to say I am so sorry for you and your chickens. Hope someone can help you. I have one that is sick to and don't know what to do. I think if I new about all the things that can happen to poor chickens I would have never gotten any. It's just too sad.

LeeLa2012,
My girls went out to "free range" in the backyard.
I saw them eating bird seed for the wild birds.
and the next day a couple had explosive very watery poo.
I like to follow the experts on this site. They know so much.
One of them is Fred's Hens.
Maybe he can help.
I am too knew to know anything. Just what I have experienced through having the chickens.
Sorry.

@LOLchick, I agree. If I had only knew.... I would have also not done this. Not that I don't love them, but Jeeze!!!!!! Taking more poo on to be tested. More friggin $$$$! If I still get no answers, I'm just done. Whatever happens, happens! This stress is totally unnecessary. Thanks Mg15! I'll look into him! Thanks again guys!

  • If they have giardia, I think the treatment for it might be metronidazole (Flagyl) and I could mail you some of that or meet you to give it to you. It's possible that the treatment would also include several days of Safeguard, but I'm not positive.
  • Coccidiosis treatment is usually Corid, but some people use Sulmet and I could meet you and give you a little of both (have a gallon of each).

For future problems, you might want to think about buying some Baytril online - just do a search for enfloxil, that will give you links to places that sell the generic stuff that's made in Mexico, which I have used.

You can also do a search for Baytril and birds.
