No pooping yet?

My little one hatched nearly 48 hours ago and hasn't pooped. He also isn't drinking. He's eating fine though. Anyone know whats wrong or what I can do? Thanks

Can you post picture of the chick and his vent?
Have you looked at the vent to see if it is clear of any poop and not pasty?
You may want to gently dip the chick's beak in water and see if it will drink. If it won't then you will need to take an eye dropper or syringe (needle less) and drop some water on the side of it's beak to see if it will take the liquid. Hydration is very important.
What type of food are you using?

HI there, thank you so much for your reply. He still hasn't pooped and it has been 2 days since he was born. I have checked his vent and it doesn't look pasty to me but im not sure, I will post a pic shortly. I have dipped his beak in and all he seems to do is sneeze. He is eating fine - he is on medicated chick crumbs and I gave him a teeny bit of scrambled egg this morning. I have a needle less syringe here somewhere and I will try that too and let you know how it goes. He seems to be making little noises that sounds like tiny coughs and he is a lot more quiet (although he still does cheep). He seems to stumble around sometimes too which is worrying. I don't know what i've done wrong.

I have a heated chick plate keeping him warm, but it seems much too hot to me. I decided not to worry too much because it is a trusted brand. (You can't control the temp on it, it only has one temp).

This is his vent, looks okay to me, there doesn't seem to be any poop covering or surrounding it. What do you think? I just gave the little guy some water from a syringe and he drank a little bit, i'll do it again in a few hours.

You may want to "isolate" your chick with his own food and water, put in clean shavings and some white paper towels, that way you can monitor water/food intake and the paper towels will help confirm whether or not he is actually pooping. I would think by now if he has not pooped at all he would be in distress.
The vent doesn't look pasty. Does his vent "pulse" at all, does it look like it has a clear opening?
How many chicks do you have in the brooder?

Thanks for your reply its really appreciated. The vent definitely doesn't have a clear opening, it is hard and does seem to pulse. What does this mean? I've put olive oil on the area. He was the only hatcher this time so he's on his own anyway.

I'm scared it may be prolapsed as it is protruding very slightly?

Do you think it has a closed over vent?
Can you gently squeeze the back end and the vent clearly opens, like it has "space" for poo to come out.
Try it with another chick and you will see what I mean.

The vent is pulsating a LOT now. My poor little man looks very distressed. He keeps closing his eyes and I swear I can hear little gurgling from his stomach. when I touch the area he goes crazy. Heres another pic. Getting very worried.
