No Progress: Is Chicken Raising Just Endless Poop Clean Up With NO Rewards?

Thank you pattywac3, glad to know the jar kind is ok, I just really dislike peeling garlic. No matter what method I try, I always end up with garlic skins stuck to my fingers! I will try this as soon as I get some garlic and yogurt, maybe tomorrow. I'm a firm believer in DE, as well. How many chicken do you feed this to, I have 35 so am thinking I'll need to multiply...

Thank you, Ballerina Bird, I love the gracefulness of ballet, and enjoy the music. I don't know if I could sit through one because I'm a wiggler, but would give it a try, especially Swan Lake. Love the names! . Gracefulness is not one of my finer points, however I am improving! I do love my girls, and they are always at the fence/gate/door to meet me, piling on top of each other trying to be first! They always gather around to get treats, then wander away to do their chicken things, but there are usually several close by, watching to see if I turn up anything they are interested in. My queen is a Barred Rock, who constantly talks to me in a quiet little voice. She had always made me think of a Victorian lady! She can scold like one, too! I can tell when she's not happy with me!

Hmmmm, well, I guess because I've only read where people chop it and put it in the waterer. Never tried to chop it without peeling it, how do you feed it to your chickens? You've given me something to think about! I'm always happy to learn new things to better care for my girls :)

I'll have to check tomorrow if this method holds up, but it should work:

1. Cut the top and bottom off the clove, to expose the wet flesh.
2. Squash it. Use the side of a knife, a pestle, a rock, whatever. The skin might split, but more likely is that high-speed juice and minced garlic will come shooting out of either end of the clove.

I use the cutting method to peel garlic, since it the bulb isn't always used fresh. Cut through one layer of skin and the clove meat, and rest the knife on the last layer of skin. Then pull the clove away from the skin. Flip it over and repeat on the other end. I haven't quite got the hang of getting the whole skin off in two halves, but it sure beats peeling the clove like a banana. Use a slightly blunt knife for this, you need to keep the skin pinned between the knife and the chopping board.

Well, you sound like you have a graceful spirit!

I love how chicken behaviors seem so female, or feminine. That is cute about your BR. Chickens, as a friend of mine says, definitely have a lot of opinions.

OK, I cannot stop laughing about the emotional benefits of Epsom salt baths for chickens -- it makes them sound like Victorian ladies with the vapors! So cute, and a great idea.

Also, I was thinking the same thing -- this is a really nice thread, and I am grateful to smartgirlchic for starting it and to everyone for sharing.

I'm super grateful for all the great responses! I've learned a lot! :)

I have to share this photo -- I used it for my avatar for a little bit. When I saw Ballerina Bird's name I was thinking it would be perfect for her:

It seems to fit Skyfeathers' description, don't you think?

And I want to add my voice to everyone else's -- This is a great thread and I'm really enjoying it. Not to mention learning a ton!
