I only have 1 chicken and she lays one egg a day but I often find it on the floor because there is a hardly existent shell. I give her grit, what could be the problem?

How old is this bird?
What all and how exactly are you feeding?

When you say 'grit'.....
do you mean granite digestive grit,
or Oyster Shell grit?

Grit does nothing for eggs. It grinds up their food and helps them digest. It has nothing to do with the reproductive cycle.

What are you feeding her? Whatever it is, sounds like there isn’t enough calcium in it. She needs a Layer Feed with a supplement of Oyster Shell to boost those shells.

Also, one chicken won’t do. You need at least a pair.
