Nobody Else Has Done It

If anybody in your family can sew, you can make a pretty simple dress without a lot of trouble and it will FIT RIGHT

My grandma and I made mine for less than $100 using a prom dress pattern. I wanted really simple, but you could always dress it up a bit more. I'm sure the fabric you buy is made in China too, but at least you don't have to deal with difficult companies.

Best wedding wishes, RoPo! While planning my own wedding in 2009, I also considered Chinese Ebay stores for a bit. All you need to do is read the negative reviews they haven't got around to deleting yet (and their outraged responses) to see that buying from them isn't in your best interests. I ended up trolling bridal shops online for months before finding my dress on sale at David's Bridal for $35. I don't like traditional wedding dresses, so technically it was a bridesmaid's dress... but it looked darn good! Then I made my own headpiece out of curly willow withes, cedar roses, dried German statice flowers, a cashmere shawl, antique lace bits, and freshwater pearls. Don't have any good pics on me, but you can kinda see what I did here. Having some handmade stuff thrown in was fairly simple, looked more "me" than what I could find for sale, and I enjoyed making it. Plus we spent a LOT more money on his suit than on my get-up! The moral: never marry a man with long monkey arms. LOL

The ranch I work on is owned by the BIGGEST wedding dress importer in the U.S. They own several MAJOR wedding dress stores, along with the factory that makes them in China.
Funny thing, the company is AMERICAN CLOTHING.

Well! I contacted the seamstress company that did my prom dresses and realized, that if I order online...the dresses are all going to be too short for me.

I'm going to get it hand made again. My body is just too, um, tall and voluptuous to do it otherwise. They also have cheap dresses for sale there that they can alter if need be.

Also, they take payments (which is gonna be a huge help) and if I decide I like another dress, they will put it on lay-a-way for it!

Well yeah there's the patriot thing. But besides that in my experience it takes FOREVER to get here, even if 100% correct it can hit snags in shipping. But also, sizing is not the same around the world. I' leery of ordering clothes online unless I've tried that particular brand, because of the variation between brands, fabrics, etc... an entirely different country, with different styles to boot... nope, not me. I won't even order a T-shirt, n'mind something as important (and expensive) as a wedding gown.

So yeah, overall I'd go with local. For support local's sake, but also so that if there's any problem it can be remedied without depending on the postal service... *shudder*

I do love that third dress. Couldn't wear it, I look just plain goofy in halters... but it's absolutely gorgeous.
