Noise level comparison. help?

oh good, i thought i was over exaggerating when i was thinking my runner are a 8 or 9 in loudness... sometimes it's ear peircing! at least i know i am not the only one!

I have Cayuga's and comparing the female to the Pekin's that I had she's only slightly less loud.

Loudness: 7-8 (she can really quack when she wants something)

Frequency: maybe a 3.

I have khaki Campbells and a welsh harlequin. The campbell drake is a quiet 2, you cannot hear him unless you are close. Before i got the harliquin girl one campbell never quacked and only chattered at 2 the other could get out a good 7 if the feed ran out or something seemed off to her. Now the harliquin has taken over as designated ‘human summoner’ With a solid 9 quack but again only if she thinks something needs looking into. I can hear her all over the neighbor hood. Just have to be sure they stay happy!

All Ducks can be loud! It is not a matter of breed or size.
Examples:
  • Violeta Duck, one of my smallest ducks (Buff Orpington) and Misty Duck (mixed breed, three times the size of Violeta) really hate each other. Usually they ignore each other and both go the other way, but sometimes »quack-outs« happen where both ducks just yell at each other. No physical fighting, just quacking. No, QUACKING!!! And believe it or not tiny Violeta duck always wins. She is louder, faster, longer lasting and - shriller. The tiniest duck is the loudest duck. - Except for…
  • Pinball Duck, one of my Magpies when she's a momma duck. Also a smaller duck, when she has ducklings, she becomes vocal and aggressive. Constantly quacking to announce her presence and get everybody out of her and her ducklings way. And if one of her ducklings goes missing… don't ask!
  • The White Layers are usually on the quiet side, except when they are hungry. Then they turn into chatterboxes, not loud, but permanently complaining. When they are hangry they become very vocal and announce they hunger!
My general observation is that the larger breeds usually have a deeper, more pleasant voice, whereas smaller ducks tend to have a more shrill quack.
