My four chicks (coming up on 6 weeks old) make a lot of noise at bedtime, so much so that I go running to make sure no one is hurt or in distress. I sat and watched them tonight. They are obviously jockeying for position - all trying to get under each others' wings! For a while I put a shoe box in there with one side cut out and they all jammed up in there but they've outgrown their shoebox. I put a larger box in there tonight, with the side cut off, but they weren't interested and found a place to pile up a little farther away, complaining all the while. Is this normal? Is there something else I should put in there for them to sleep in?

Me, I have no clue except it sure sounds cute! I can see them now! Lol "Found a place to all pile up".

My 5/6 week old chick get noisy at bedtime. shortly after dark, usually for about a half hour. The sound anxious, but not the super loud panic peeping. First night or two i was worried, but they do it on the regular, and once they all get sunggled in, are just fine. They do it at all temps, and whether heat plate is on or off, so, i think its just their bedtime routine

It's definitely not because they're cold. I'm in Key Largo, and it's over 80 even now at night I think, and they're fully feathered. It's anxious not panicky peeps, so I guess it's just their normal bedtime routine. thanks everyone!

It’s normal when they are getting settled in for bed. My adults hens still do that and I only have 2
