I have six backyard chickens, 3 leghorns and 3 astrilorps. All are hens and have just started to lay their first eggs. The head bird a leghorn and aptly named screech, screech’s persistently for attention. After investigation and nothing untoward been found she will continue to screech. I worry about neighbors complaining. Has anyone come across a hen screeching? What would your solution be? Thanks in advance.

My polish hen, Charm, screetches and yells all day long but her yelling mixes in with all my other 60 chickens. Try giving your screeching hen some extra scratch or black sunflower seeds and that might keep her quiet.

New layers are often loud. Once they are laying regularly it eases SOME but they will make noise.
Running out with treats does 2 things. It teaches them that screaming brings treats and risks them not eating the feed they should be eating causing a nutritional imbalance.

If chickens are legal where you are I wouldn't worry about it. If it bothers YOU to much maybe rehome the perpetrator.

Yeah this isn’t the egg song, it’s a flat out squawk , a gravelly sound.

Some birds are just flat out noisy. It's common also for laying birds to sing the egg song after they lay, and others may join in.

If the noise is a problem, rehome her.
