Noisy chicken... is this normal??

Mine don't do the egg song after, but before. That's how I know they are ready to lay their eggs. They pace around looking for the best place to lay, and all end up wanting the same place..

I can't for the life of me get them to lay where I WANT them to lay. *sigh*

My coop with BR's in it are very noisy when one lays an egg.

My coop with EE's never make a sound.

Go figure....

In my flock, Little Sister is the choir director. She'll sing the eggsong even if she does not lay an egg. She paces in front of the nest boxes and checks on the gals getting the job done. About mid morning she gets all the gals whipped into shape and I can hear the cackling and carrying on in the back 40.

I have 16 nest boxes for 17 hens, and they rarely lay in the same box. I think they like changing location on a daily basis!

I love your set up!

I have tried every type of nest box.. From a covered kitty litter box to bucket nesting boxes and even milk crates.. They won't use them! They like to make a nest in the shavings on the coop floor... I have to get in the coop to get the eggs.

Your girls have a palace to lay their eggs! Which one is Little Sister? They are all beautiful! How many eggs do you normally get a day?

In the first photo Little Sister is the hen on the bottom right with her tail kinked to the left. I normally get 5-13 eggs a day.

Thanks for the compliments!
